Learning Support

Learning Support is an important part of education today, with a number of students in every class needing some form of this for some time during their school life. Our curriculum and methodology in themselves are therapeutic - there are many elements in the normal classroom work that address the need for rhythm, repetition, the artistic approach, engaging the imagination and so on that support the development of the child. The work in the morning circle that happens each morning in main lesson for 30 - 40 minutes helps children with coordination and incorporates concentration exercises.

At present in the Learning Support Faculty we have a full time Special Education teacher, with curative eurythmy, art therapy and tutoring also provided. An emphasis is given to supporting the classroom teachers to work in a differentiated way to support the needs of all students in their class. Gifted and talented students are able to work to their own level through the creative opportunities afforded by the curriculum. This extends through all aspects - academic, artistic and practical subjects.

Child studies are undertaken regularly, as a means of understanding the academic and social needs of particular children. These are conducted over a three-week period and involve the whole Lower or Upper School Faculty, with the support of the parents.
